How to choose and lay tiles

Short and clear — tile types, grouting, wear resistance, adhesive choice and what the symbols on the packaging mean.

Tile types

An indoor wall tile; not recommended for floors. Rich colour range, glossy or matt surface.

A clay floor tile with higher water absorption. Indoor only (outdoors it freezes and cracks). Retains heat longer.

Very strong (white clay, feldspar, quartz). Low water absorption, frost-resistant — suitable for floors and outdoors. Full-body or glazed.

Минимум 2 мм joint indoors; wider outdoors; expansion joints on large areas.
Grout waterproofs and seals the room — tiles and adhesive absorb moisture.
Laying without joints = risk of moisture, stains and cracks from thermal movement.
Respect the adhesive drying time — rushed grouting seals in moisture.

Wear classes (PEI)⌄

PEI 1	wall tiles (no foot traffic)
PEI 2	bathrooms and wet rooms (light traffic)
PEI 3	kitchens, hallways, dining rooms (medium)
PEI 4	residential entrances, shops (moderately heavy)
PEI 5	public buildings, heavy traffic

Batches, shade and calibre⌄

Each model is produced in batches; shade and size (calibre) vary slightly between batches.
Buy the whole quantity at once + 10–15% reserve (for wastage and future replacements).

Choosing an adhesive⌄

Use established brands (Ceresit, Mapei, Weber, Marisan…).
За гранитогрес — always a flexible adhesive (its water absorption is ~0%, cement adhesive will not hold, especially outdoors).
For wall and terracotta tiles — a higher-cement adhesive is acceptable.
